Basic Information: Tura Public School was established in the year 1981, on 14th March, by the Education Department, Govt. of Meghalaya under the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education. This is the only Government Public School of Garo Hills out of the five Government Public Schools of Meghalaya. This School is considered as a Special School of Meghalaya  and affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, Delhi under the Affiliation No. ME003

This School has been catering to the Educational needs of the students of the entire Garo Hills ever since its inception, and offers the ‘Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) course up to the tenth standard. This is a co-educational Government School comprising eleven classes, from Kindergarten (Kg) up to Class – X Standard. The School has an impressive history of achievement in academics, co-curricular activities, and it has polished various gems of the society. The School can boast of many Alumni, who are very well established, holding various prestigious portfolios in different sectors. The School has produced many Bureaucrats, Government officers, Doctors, Engineers, Academicians, An IFS officer, Lawyers, and Entrepreneurs who have proven their merit in the social arena and continue to make valuable contributions to India and abroad.


The School is located at Cherangre, Tura, West Garo Hills at a comparatively high altitude of 472m above sea level. The School has a huge area of 106 bighas (approximately) out of which around 6 bighas (approx) has been given to the Tura Polytechnic College. It is located in an eco-friendly area with a huge number of trees and the environment is conducive to the educational purposes with almost zero level pollution. It is located at a distance of approximately 4 km from the main town. Some important landmarks in the neighbourhood of the School are the St. Peters Seminary, PHE water purification Tank, Tura Polytechnic College, MePDCL sub-station etc.
